The homestanding Cardinals entered the evening at 4-1 in the Southland, but UNO fought to a 35-35 tie at halftime and led most of the way in the second half. The Privateers (3-14, 1-5) led by as many as 10 in the second half before a late Lamar rally fell short.
New Orleans' very balanced attack was led by Dae Dae Hunter with 12 points. Turk Vincent and James White had 11 each, and Kohen Rowbatham added 10. A big factor was on the boards; a UNO team that has struggled all year to rebound beat Lamar 43-37 on the glass. M.J. Thomas led the way with 9 boards, followed by White with 7 and Luke Davis and Jah Short with 6 each.
New Orleans heads to Commerce to face East Texas A&M on Saturday.
