Johnson provided the healthy majority of the Privateer offense in the first half, notching 28 points and leading the Privateers to a 46-35 halftime lead. UNO stretched that lead to 14 and held a 54-41 edge before the visiting Islanders launched a 19-0 run to take control. With TAMU-CC up 70-65, Jones scored nine of his 11 points in a three-minute stretch, the last being a three-pointer, to put the Privateers back up 76-74. From there, UNO held on, with the Islanders' Jordan Roberts bricking a desperation three at the buzzer.
In addition to his 40 points, Johnson also led New Orleans with 7 rebounds. James Glisson III was the third Privateer in double digits, also contributing 11 points, including four critical free throws in the final seconds.
UNO (7-9, 2-1) heads to Thibodaux on Monday night for its first conference road game of the season to take on Nicholls.
