The New Orleans Privateers defeated the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns 8-7 at Tigue Moore Field in Lafayette. The Cajuns (30-4) are currently ranked #1 by Collegiate Baseball and are in the top ten of every major poll used nationally.
New Orleans scored five runs in the top of the fourth, but saw the Cajuns immediately tie the game at five in the bottom half. In the seventh, UNO broke through for three runs two of which scored on a triple by Jonathan Coco.
Leading 8-6 in the bottom of the ninth, the Cajuns led off with a single and a double putting the tying runs in scoring position with no outs. Darron McKigney came in from the bullpen and retired the next three Cajuns, stranding the tying run on third base.
Reese Kanter went 4-for-5 scoring two runs and driving in one. Jonathan Santana and Coco both drove in a pair. On the mound, McKigney, Daniel Martinez, and Seth Laigast all provided some key relief appearances behind starter Ray Winter.
The Privateers return to Southland play this weekend with a three game series in Beaumont against Lamar.
