Sophomore Geno Encina pitched a complete game shutout to lead The University of the Incarnate Word Cardinals (8-19, 2-2 SLC) to a 3-0 victory over the New Orleans Privateers (8-19, 1-9) on Friday night in San Antonio.Encina allowed just five hits and two walks while striking out seven Privateers. Alex Smith started for the Privateers and allowed three runs (just one earned) in six innings of work. Reese Kanter recorded two of the five UNO hits in the game.
The three game Southland series will wrap up on Saturday when the Privateers and Cardinals play a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. Nick Halliday and Hunter Medine are the scheduled starting pitchers for the Privateers.
