New Orleans (11-27, 2-17) fell 7-4 in game one of a three game split series against Southland co-leader Nicholls (23-20, 13-6.)
The game featured a couple dust-ups between the long time local rivals turned new conference rivals. Daniel Martinez was ejected after hitting the lead-off batter in the third inning despite no warnings or any obvious evidence of hostilities. In the 9th inning, the Privateers loaded the bases on two hit batters and a walk. After both hit batters, UNO coaches complained looking for an ejection of the Nicholls pitcher. At one point, Colonels Head Coach Seth Thidodeaux and the Privateers Third Base Coach got into a heated verbal altercation.
Game two of the series shifts to the Lakefront, as the Privateers will host the Colonels at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Maestri Field.
