A&M-CC Sweeps DH From Privateers

A&M-CC Islanders. Great uniforms,
or greatest uniforms ever?
The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders (14-15, 5-3 SLC) swept a well-pitched and well-played doubleheader from the New Orleans Privateers (8-16, 1-7) by scores of 1-0 (10 innings)
and 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at Maestri Field.

In game one, Privateers starter Alex Smith pitched nine shutout innings but walked away with a no decision as the game went to the 10th inning scoreless. In the top of the 10th, A&M-CC scored a run against Seth Laigast (1-2) on a two-out double. Sammy Capielano had two of the Privateers four hits.

In game two, the Privateers got another strong outing from Nick Halliday (2-2) but the offense was bottled up again in a 3-2 loss. Trevor Belicek pitched a complete game, retiring the final 15 Privateers he faced consecutively. Sammy Capielano again led the charge offensively, collecting three of the six Privateers hits. Taking the ridiculously awful official scoring at home games into account, Capielano's batting average now stands at an impressive .366.

The Privateers and Islanders will wrap up the three game weekend series tomorrow at Maestri Field. Freshman Hunter Medine (3-0, 0.00) will make his first Southland start. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
